Boy Scout Training

Training is available to help you become a better leader for your troop.  Training is offered online, in classrooms, and outdoors.  Classes are for current registered leaders and for anyone who may want to be a leader.

To be considered a fully "Trained" leader, you need to complete the following:

Scoutmaster(SM) or Assistant Scoutmaster(ASM)
  • ADULT BASIC TRAINING
  • POSITION SPECIFIC TRAINING
    • SM/ASM Leader Specific Training
    • Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills (IOLS)
NOTE: Scouting used to require "Fast Start Training" and "This is Scouting" training. Both are now optional and offered online here but are recommended.  "Fast Start: Boy Scouting" is an orientation training for your volunteer position to get you started before you complete the Position-Specific training but does not substitute for the training requirement.

Troop Committee Member
  • ADULT BASIC TRAINING
  • POSITION SPECIFIC TRAINING

All courses marked with an asterisk (*) are available online at myscouting.org in the eLearning Center.  You will be asked to create an account if you are new to scouting.  Visit the council page here to learn how to link your BSA ID to your training profile. The committee training is also offered in a classroom setting where you can discuss and exchange ideas with other leaders.

Check the following resources to see what upcoming offerings of IOLS and the classroom version of leader-specific training are being offered.  You can enroll in training opportunities offered by the council or any district.
